In the presence of the Lord Mayor of Potsdam, Mr Jann Jakobs, the 4th international M100 Youth Media Workshop was closed with a range of impressive presentations by the participants on Sunday evening.

During the three intensive days of the workshop, 30 young journalists from 21 countries (including Georgia, Armenia, Bulgaria, Belarus, Moldavia, Montenegro, Croatia, Latvia, Ukraine, Hungary, Greece, Finland, Ireland, Spain, Poland and Germany), have visited an editorial meeting of the tabloid BILD, have discussed pressing issues concerning the future of journalism with researchers from the Institute for Communication- and Media Politics and, have debated with experienced journalists about expectations and requirements. The workshop concluded with several documentaries, produced by the participants, including two videos, one radio report and a blog: the underlying notion of what the future of journalism may consist of, was summarised in the final statement of the presentation – “We are the Future”.

“The young journalists gathered in Potsdam for the Youth Media Workshop have demonstrated their confident use and familiarity with new technical aspects of media production and, importantly, have also shown the great extent to which ‘old’ journalistic virtues are needed in order to produce valuable news and reports.” Such were the words of Mr Andreas Wertz, the chief-editor of InfoRadio, who represented Ms Dagmar Reim,  the patron of the M100 Youth Media Work Shop. According to Ms Anna Wolf from the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation, the cooperation partner for the workshop, “controversial debates, a spry exchange of journalistic experiences and opinions, interesting conversation partners and, especially, the high-quality participants, translated into the successful conclusion of the Youth Media Workshop 2008. The promising young journalists prepared salient presentations to answer the leitmotiv of the conference: What is the future of Journalism?”
